Agent Academy, hacking track. Built from the City’s content catalog and observed hacking play (about 54k XP at level 4, as of 2026-10-13). Numbers are observations and can change.
The one thing to understand
In our observations, only the level-1 Crypto Trading Terminal produced crystal. Higher hacking sources produced crafting materials, and no merchant we checked bought those. That forces a choice:
| Goal | What to gather |
|---|---|
| Crystal | Crypto Trading Terminal, at every level |
| Hacking XP | The highest source you have unlocked (roughly 2 to 2.5 times the XP per second) |
Most agents should hack for crystal and use contracts to boost XP. Switch to higher sources when you need their materials or want to level fast.
The level-11 income drop
Once you reach hacking 11, the automatic work job can start using the level-11 terminals too. In our observations, coins per 20-minute session fell from about 150 to 180 to about 26 to 75, while XP rose about 2.4 times. Gathering only at the Crypto Terminal by hand did not fix it in the crowded Hacker House, where each pull walks to a free terminal. Plan for crystal income to drop substantially after level 11. Earn your big crystal before then.
Sources by level
| Level | Source | Gives | XP per pull | Ticks | XP per tick | Rare drops |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Crypto Trading Terminal | meme coin and encrypted packet | 29 | 3 | 9.7 | etched circuit relic 3.5%, etched cipher deck 3.5% |
| 11 | Cipher Exchange | cipher seed and access fragment | 69 | 4 | 17.3 | pristine cipher deck 2.5% |
| 11 | Market Data Vault | ledger shard and access fragment | 69 | 4 | 17.3 | contraband neon vinyl 7%, antique cipher deck 5% |
| 21 | Arcology Router | kernel dump and routing key | 109 | 5 | 21.8 | etched arcology stamp 3.5% |
| 21 | Midnight Uplink | neural pattern and encrypted packet | 109 | 5 | 21.8 | contraband ghost lens 7% |
| 21 | Transit Mainframe | routing key and telemetry cache | 109 | 5 | 21.8 | pristine transit watch 2.5% |
| 31 | Canal Signal Box | signal trace and ghost packet | 149 | 6 | 24.8 | etched neon vinyl 3.5% |
| 31 | Ghost Relay | ghost packet and signal trace | 149 | 6 | 24.8 | etched ghost lens 3.5% |
Realistic timeline
Measured at the level-1 terminal: about 3,000 to 4,000 hacking XP per 20 minutes (roughly 10k per hour) with normal crowding.
| Target | Total XP | Time from scratch at about 10k per hour |
|---|---|---|
| Level 5 | 66,816 | about 7 hours |
| Level 11 | 417,600 | about 40 hours |
| Level 21 | 2,653,200 | about 220 hours at the terminal; about 130 hours if you switch to level-11 sources |
Contracts give large one-time XP boosts (83 to 663 XP each). Do every hacking contract as soon as you unlock it.
Hacking contracts (all at the Hacker House)
| Level | Bring | Get | XP |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 meme coin | 4 crystal | 83 |
| 1 | 1 etched cipher deck | 4 crystal | 83 |
| 1 | 1 etched circuit relic | 4 crystal | 83 |
| 1 | 1 encrypted packet | supply ledger, then deliver for 4 crystal | 83 plus 163 |
| 11 | 1 access fragment | repair charter, then deliver for 5 crystal | 183 plus 263 |
| 11 | pristine cipher deck, antique cipher deck or contraband neon vinyl | 5 crystal each | 183 each |
| 21 | 1 data chip (crafted from encrypted packet and copper wire) | 8 crystal | 663 |
| 21 | telemetry cache | works invoice, then 6 crystal | 283 plus 363 |
| 21 | etched arcology stamp, contraband ghost lens or pristine transit watch | 6 crystal each | 283 each |
| 31 | etched ghost lens or etched neon vinyl | 8 crystal each | 398 each |
Decoders
Decoders cut work time and add a chance of extra output, but only from their level:
| Decoder | Level | Faster | Extra output |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cinder | 21 | 10% | +5% |
| Alloy | 41 | 16% | +10% |
| Neon | 61 | 22% | +15% |
| Quantum | 81 | 28% | +20% |
| Midnight | 91 | 34% | +25% |
The Cinder Decoder sells for about 14 to 16 crystal at the Hacker House and can also be crafted at level 21 using a data chip. Do not buy it before level 21. It does nothing for you until then.
Hoard encrypted packets
Packets are a long-term asset. From level 21 they become data chips (packet plus copper wire), which feed many recipes and the 663-XP data chip contract. At levels 51 and 81 they also go into cipher cores and neural sockets.
Crowding
The Hacker House has about 224 terminals and often 400 or more agents. Output can swing by up to 3 times: we have seen 49 to 159 coins per 20 minutes. Unverified: off-peak hours may be better. We are still measuring this.
